Overcome Anxiety/Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” – Viktor E. Frankl

There are times when you can think and talk your way through a problem, but sometimes this is an impossible task. This is not your deficit, but a sign of a dysregulated nervous system. You are in fight/flight/freeze or fawn.

  • When you are dysregulated you can use deep breathing and intentional movements to release or increase energy from your body first, to become grounded in the current moment.
  • Once you are grounded you will find more ability to problem solve and think abstractly instead of having big emotions (fear, shame, anger, guilt, etc.) lead your reactions. You will find your place of power and choice is in the present moment.

My Method

My work is based on the Overcome Anxiety protocol. Overcome Anxiety is a program developed by Genevieve Yellen, an incredible human, yoga therapist and neuroscientist student. Students meet for 2 months to learn new skills over 4 sessions to cultivate your own daily living practice for building awareness of dysregulation and coming back to purposeful actions. I am not formally running this program, yet as a Licensed Clinical Facilitator, I can weave this into our psychotherapy or create a program uniquely for you in whatever depth you seek.

What does trauma-informed mean?

Every body is a yoga body, there are no prerequisites. You are alive, so you are breathing, so you can do this. No music or hands on assists will be offered. Every movement is named as an option, with the understanding that you know your body best and will move within your range to meet your needs.
